Threadripper 9960X Workstation

This 24-core desktop workstation targets professionals who need sustained multi-threaded compute for rendering, simulation or large data workloads. It ships with 256GB of DDR5 ECC memory and a combined 10TB of NVMe flash plus 10TB of SATA storage. The Windows 11 Pro installation is ready for certified ISV applications out of the box. Buyers who need more than 24 cores or multiple GPU slots should look elsewhere.

360mm AIO and 1200W PSU

A 360mm quiet-edition liquid cooler handles the Threadripper 9960X up to its 5.3GHz boost while keeping acoustic output low in typical office ambient. The Thermaltake 1200W 80 PLUS Gold unit uses Japanese main capacitors and a 140mm fan for efficient, low-noise power delivery. Two 120mm case fans provide baseline airflow through the Corsair 5000D chassis. Systems requiring dual high-wattage GPUs will exceed the cooling and power envelope described here.

TRX50 AERO D Connectivity

The Gigabyte TRX50 AERO D motherboard exposes two USB4 Type-C ports, four USB 3.2 Gen 2, four USB 3.2 Gen 1 and dual LAN on the rear I/O panel. Internally it provides four M.2 slots, eight SATA 6Gb/s ports and additional USB headers for front-panel expansion. Three M.2 drives are already populated with Samsung 990 PRO units, leaving one slot open for future NVMe growth. Builds that need more than four M.2 devices or ten SATA ports cannot be accommodated on this board.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 360mm AIO liquid cooler and what step is most often missed?

Mount the radiator to the case top or front using the included brackets, then attach the pump block to the Threadripper sTR5 socket with the supplied mounting hardware. The step most often missed is removing the protective film from the cold plate before securing the pump.

Which components will need maintenance or replacement first in this workstation?

The 140mm PSU fan and the two 120mm case fans are the only moving parts outside the sealed AIO loop; expect to clean or replace them after several years of continuous operation. The AIO pump is sealed and not user-serviceable.

What thermal or power limit appears first when the 24-core Threadripper 9960X runs sustained all-core workloads?

The 1200W 80 PLUS Gold PSU and the 360mm AIO define the ceiling; under prolonged full-load the CPU will hit its thermal throttle point or the power delivery limit before the cooler or PSU reaches maximum capacity.
