Threadripper PRO 9985WX Workstation

This liquid-cooled desktop pairs a 64-core Threadripper PRO 9985WX processor with 256GB of DDR5 ECC memory for multi-threaded workloads such as rendering, simulation and large-scale data analysis. The system ships with Windows 11 Pro and dual LAN ports for networked environments.

Thermals and Power Draw

A 360mm quiet-edition liquid cooler handles the CPU while the case uses front and rear 120mm fans alongside a 140mm PSU fan for low-noise airflow. The 1200W 80 PLUS Gold power supply includes over-voltage, under-voltage, over-power and short-circuit protection for stable delivery under sustained loads.

Storage and GPU Benefits

Two Samsung 990 PRO NVMe drives provide 6TB of fast PCIe 4.0 storage with sequential reads up to 7450 MB/s and writes up to 6900 MB/s, while a 10TB SATA HDD adds high-capacity bulk storage. The RTX 5060 8GB GPU supports hardware-accelerated AI workflows and multi-display output via the motherboard's USB4 and USB 3.2 ports.

Questions about this item

How is the 360 mm liquid cooler mounted on the sTR5 socket, and what step is often missed?

The AIO bracket uses the four threaded holes around the sTR5 socket; the step often missed is tightening the screws in a diagonal sequence to keep cold-plate pressure even across all 64 cores.

Which component will need replacement first under continuous 24/7 workloads?

The 140 mm PSU fan and the two 120 mm case fans are the only moving parts rated for continuous duty; plan to swap them before bearing noise appears.

What thermal limit appears first when all 64 cores sustain 5.4 GHz boost?

The 360 mm AIO reaches its heat‑dissipation ceiling before the CPU hits its thermal junction maximum, so coolant temperature becomes the limiting factor.
