What it is

The AddOn H4F02AA#ABA-AO is an active adapter cable that connects an HDMI 1.3 source to a VGA display. It measures 20.00cm (8.00in) long with an HDMI male connector on one end and a VGA female connector on the other. Designed for HP devices such as the 250 G4, Chromebook, Omen Pro 15 Mobile Workstation and Spectre Pro x360 G1, it requires no external power source.

When to use it

This adapter replaces a direct HDMI-to-HDMI link when the target monitor or projector only accepts a VGA input. It is the right choice for presentations, legacy display setups or extending a laptop screen to an older projector. The jump is worth it when you need a compact, bus-powered solution that fits in a laptop bag and works without a separate power brick.

Resolution headroom

The active converter supports video signals up to 1080p resolution, which covers standard Full HD presentations and office work. It will not pass higher resolutions such as 1440p or 4K, and it does not carry audio because the VGA interface is video-only. Buyers who need higher pixel counts or audio over the same cable should look for a different connectivity method.

Questions about this item

What length is the cable between the HDMI and VGA connectors?

The adapter cable measures 8 inches (20 cm) end to end, so it adds minimal bulk between the computer and the display cable.

Does the HDMI plug draw power from the source or need a separate supply?

It is an active adapter that harvests power from the HDMI 1.3 port itself, so no external power brick or USB cable is required.

How long before the active electronics might degrade and need replacement?

The converter is a solid-state device with no moving parts; under normal use it typically lasts for many years without requiring maintenance.
