Ultra-Slim 9.5mm Blu-ray Drive

The AJMRTC BU40N is a 9.5mm thick internal optical drive built for laptop and notebook bays. It uses a standard SATA interface and a tray-loading mechanism to read Blu-ray, DVD and CD media. The drive serves as a direct replacement for a failed or missing slimline unit in compatible portable computers.

Silent Tray Operation

The tray-loading design runs without a caddy and draws power solely from the slim SATA connection. In normal use the mechanism stays quiet while reading at up to 6X for BD-ROM, 8X for DVD and 24X for CD. A small onboard cache helps keep data flow steady during extended read sessions.

Replaces Faulty Slim Drives

This unit upgrades a broken 9.5mm drive in a laptop that accepts a slim SATA optical bay. It adds Blu-ray read capability where only DVD was available before. The jump is worthwhile when 4K UHD playback or BDXL and M-DISC reading are needed and the host system provides a matching slim SATA slot.

Questions about this item

How do I fit the 9.5mm tray-load drive into my laptop's slim SATA bay and what step is often missed?

Slide the bare drive into the 9.5mm optical bay, connect the 7+6 pin SATA connector, then secure it with the original caddy screws; the step often missed is transferring the old drive's faceplate because none is included.

What part will need replacement first on the BU40N after heavy use?

The tray-loading mechanism and laser pickup are the wear items; repeated disc ejection cycles and 6X BD read operations gradually degrade the pickup, so the drive mechanism typically fails before the electronics.

What speed limit appears first during a long 4K UHD Blu-ray rip session?

The 36Mbps maximum data transfer rate caps sustained throughput, so even though the drive reads BD-ROM at 6X, the interface ceiling is reached first during continuous high-bitrate 4K UHD playback or ripping.
