Form Factor & Compatibility

The AJMRTC BU50N is a 9.5mm ultra-slim internal Blu-ray writer built for laptops and notebooks that use a tray-loading SATA optical bay. It fits directly into the standard slimline slot as a replacement for a damaged or ageing drive and can also be used in a desktop via an external SATA enclosure. The black bezel matches typical chassis aesthetics.

Target Users & Limitations

This drive suits owners of compatible laptops needing to read or write BD, DVD and CD media, including BDXL discs up to 128 GB and M-DISC media for long-term archival. It is not suitable for buyers who need slot-loading mechanisms, devices without a 9.5mm SATA bay such as tablets, Surface devices, TVs or smartphones, or anyone expecting bundled 4K UHD playback software.

Decisive Specification

The 9.5mm tray-loading SATA form factor is the single specification that decides fitment; the drive will only install in bays that accept this exact height and connector layout.

Questions about this item

Will the BU50N 9.5mm SATA tray-load drive fit into the same bay as my old 9.5mm laptop optical drive?

Yes, the BU50N uses the standard 9.5mm ultra-slim form factor and Slim SATA (7+6 pin) interface, so it drops into any laptop bay designed for a 9.5mm tray-loading SATA drive.

How can I verify the BU50N is reading and writing at its rated 6X BD and 8X DVD speeds after installation?

Use disc-burning software to run a speed test or write a BD-R at 6X and a DVD±R at 8X; the drive’s 4 MB cache and 36 Mbps max transfer rate will sustain those speeds if the media and system keep up.

Does the BU50N include mounting screws, a bezel, cables or playback software for 4K UHD Blu-ray?

The drive ships as a bare ODD only — no screws, bezel, cables, manual or 4K UHD playback software are included; you must supply or buy those separately.
