AKG K 701 Reference Headphones

The AKG K 701 is an open-back dynamic headphone built for critical listening. It uses flat-wire voice-coil technology to deliver accurate sound reproduction and precise imaging. This design places instruments in a wide, detailed soundstage for analytical or immersive sessions.

For Critical Listening and Studio Work

These headphones suit engineers, producers and audiophiles who need neutral response and spacious presentation. The open-back construction leaks sound and isolates poorly, so they are not for commuting, tracking live microphones or noisy environments. Buyers needing deep sub-bass impact or a closed design should consider other models.

Flat-Wire Voice-Coil Technology

The flat-wire voice coil is the core engineering feature that drives the K 701's transient speed and imaging precision. It reduces moving mass compared to conventional round wire, enabling the detailed highs and articulate bass response described. This single specification defines the headphone's reference-class performance character.

Questions about this item

What connection standard does the AKG K 701 headphone use for its detachable cable?

The headphone uses a mini-XLR connector on the earcup end of the detachable cable for a secure, low-profile link.

What physical space and headband clearance does the open-back K 701 require for comfortable wear?

The self-adjusting leather headband and large velvet ear pads need room around the ears; the open-back cups also leak sound outward.

How is the flat-wire voice coil driver installed in the K 701, and what alignment step is critical?

The flat-wire voice coil is factory-mounted inside each driver unit; no user installation is involved beyond plugging in the detachable cable correctly.
