Double-sided butyl sealing tape, 1 1/2 in wide by 36 yd long, 5.5 mil thick, water-tight from 30 to 200 Degrees F
Americover Butyl Tape is a double-sided sealing film tape with an acrylic adhesive on a rubber-film backing. It comes in a 1 1/2 in by 36 yd roll that supplies 100 ft of length. The product is designed for electricians and installers who need a reliable water-tight bond on ductwork, enclosures or conduit entries.
The tape performs from 30 to 200 degrees F, so it stays flexible in cool conditions and does not soften in warm environments. At 5.5 mil thickness it conforms to irregular surfaces without adding bulk. The black colour helps the tape blend with dark jackets and housings during routine installations.
Under continuous heat up to 200 degrees F the acrylic adhesive maintains its grip and the rubber-film backing resists degradation. In prolonged cold down to 30 degrees F the tape remains pliable enough to keep a seal without cracking. The water-tight rating holds across the full temperature span for long-term installations.

Cut the required length from the 36 yd roll, peel the liner, press firmly along the full 1 1/2 in width so the acrylic adhesive bonds, then roll with a roller to remove air pockets; skipping the roller step is the common error.
Inspect the butyl seal annually; if the rubber film backing shows cracking or the acrylic adhesive loses tack after prolonged exposure near the 200 Degrees F limit, remove the old tape and apply a fresh strip from the roll.
The acrylic adhesive reaches its maximum performance temperature at 200 Degrees F; sustained heat at or above this point causes softening and loss of water-tight sealing before the rubber film backing degrades.
