Provides 450 VA / 255 W battery backup with four protected outlets and two surge-only outlets, 1080 J surge rating, eight-hour recharge
The APC BN450M is a 450 VA, 255 W battery backup designed for 120 V environments. It provides six NEMA 5-15R outlets, four of which deliver battery-backed power while two supply surge-only protection. The unit weighs 5.73 lbs and measures 5.52 x 9.98 x 4.13 inches, fitting easily on a desk or shelf.
The single figure that determines whether this UPS can support your equipment is the 255 W maximum output. Add the power draw of every device you intend to connect to the battery-backed outlets; if the total exceeds 255 W the unit will overload and shut down. The two surge-only outlets do not increase this limit.
Under typical load the battery lasts six minutes, extending to ten minutes at lighter loads, which is only enough time to save work and shut down gracefully. After a discharge the sealed battery requires eight hours to recharge fully, so the UPS cannot sustain repeated outages in quick succession. It is not suited for users who need extended runtime or frequent power-loss coverage.

The 255-watt limit is the maximum real power the four battery-backed outlets can supply; a typical desktop PC and monitor drawing under 255 watts will stay on for about six minutes, giving time to save work and shut down.
A NEMA 5-15P plug fits a standard 120-volt 15-amp wall receptacle, so the UPS can draw up to 12 amps continuous from the mains without needing a special circuit.
The unit measures 5.52 inches wide, 9.98 inches deep and 4.13 inches high, so allow at least that footprint on a desk or shelf plus a few inches of clearance around the vents for airflow.
