The APC BVK1200M2 is a tower-style battery backup rated at 1200VA and 650W with a 480W load capacity. It provides eight NEMA 5-15R outlets and includes both USB Type-A and Type-C charging ports. The unit delivers a stepped approximated sine wave output at 60Hz and is designed for home and home-office electronics such as computers, external drives and wireless routers. A user-replaceable sealed lead-acid battery offers approximately 11 minutes of runtime at half load and 3 minutes at full load.

Upgrade from basic surge strips

This UPS replaces simple surge strips that only clamp voltage spikes but cannot sustain power during an outage. The 350-joule surge energy rating and automatic voltage regulation handle input fluctuations between 70V and 155V without switching to battery. The jump is worth it when you need continued operation to save work, maintain a network connection or allow a controlled shutdown during a blackout. It is not for installations that require pure sine-wave output or extended runtime for high-wattage loads.

Verify that your equipment operates on 120V 60Hz power and uses standard NEMA 5-15R plugs compatible with the eight rear outlets. Confirm the total connected load does not exceed 480W so the UPS can support it on battery. Ensure you have space for a tower-form-factor unit and that the USB communication cable can reach your computer for monitoring software. The battery recharges in about 6 hours after a discharge event.
