Smart-UPS SMC1000 Tower UPS

The APC Smart-UPS SMC1000 is a line-interactive tower UPS rated at 1000 VA and 600 W. It provides battery backup and surge protection for desktop workstations, networking gear, or small server loads that require 120 V output. Eight NEMA 5-15R outlets supply both battery-backed and surge-only sockets for connected equipment.

Input voltage window and transfer time

The unit accepts a main-operations input range of 93 to 130 V and an adjustable range of 85 to 136 V at 50 or 60 Hz with automatic frequency sensing. Automatic voltage regulation corrects brownouts and overvoltages without using battery power. Transfer time to battery is 8 to 10 milliseconds, which keeps most power supplies running during short outages. Surge energy rating is 455 joules.

Installation notes and common issues

The UPS connects via a NEMA 5-15P plug and includes USB and RJ-45 serial ports for management software. Battery replacement uses the APCRBC142 cartridge, which is user-replaceable and typically recharges in three hours. Units ship with the battery disconnected; forgetting to connect it before first use is the most frequent setup error. The tower form factor measures 6.7 inches wide and fits on a desk or shelf.

Questions about this item

Which SMC1000 capacity should I choose for my equipment?

This model provides 1000VA and 600W output; size your load so the connected devices stay under 600W to use the full battery runtime.

What does the 600W rating mean when the UPS is powering my server?

It is the maximum real power the inverter can deliver continuously; if your server draws more than 600W the UPS will overload and shut down.

What do the RJ-45 Serial and USB ports actually let me do?

They connect the UPS to a computer or network card for monitoring, graceful shutdown and configuration through the included management software.
