27-inch Retina 5K All-in-One

This 2020 Apple iMac combines a 27-inch Retina 5K display with a 3.3GHz Intel Core i5 processor in a slim all-in-one chassis. It ships with macOS Monterey, 8GB of DDR4 memory and a 512GB SSD. The integrated AMD Radeon Pro graphics handle creative workloads and everyday tasks. The system weighs 19.7 lbs and measures 20.30 by 25.60 by 8 inches.

Best for creatives and general office use

The Retina 5K panel and colour accuracy suit photo editors, video producers and designers who need a calibrated screen out of the box. The unified design saves desk space for home or office setups. Buyers who need user-upgradable memory or storage should look elsewhere, as the configuration is fixed at purchase. Gamers seeking high frame rates in modern titles will find the graphics performance limited.

Fixed 8GB DDR4 memory

The iMac comes with 8GB of DDR4 RAM soldered to the logic board, so the capacity cannot be increased after purchase. This ceiling determines whether the machine can handle your typical multitasking load, virtual machines or large creative projects. If your workflow regularly exceeds 8GB, this model will not meet the requirement.

Questions about this item

How much desk space do the 20.30 by 25.60 inch dimensions of this iMac require?

The all-in-one measures 20.30 inches high by 25.60 inches wide by 8 inches deep and weighs 19.7 lbs, so allow at least that footprint plus cable clearance behind the stand.

Does the memory slot cover on the back of the 27 inch model need a tool to open for the 8GB DDR4 upgrade?

No tool is needed; press the small button above the power port to release the cover, then pull the levers to eject the existing modules before seating the new DDR4 sticks until they click.

When will the 512GB SSD in this 2020 iMac likely need replacement?

The soldered SSD is not user-replaceable; plan on the drive lasting the usable life of the Mac unless a hardware fault occurs, in which case service requires a logic-board swap.
