9.7-inch Retina tablet for everyday use

The 2012 Apple iPad 4 delivers a 2048 by 1536 Retina display with 3.1 million pixels at 264 pixels per inch. It runs on a dual-core A6X processor with quad-core graphics and 1GB of DDR2 RAM. The 32GB model stores apps, photos and media for home, school or light office tasks. Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0 keep it connected.

32GB storage and 10-hour battery cover daily basics

The 32GB capacity holds a solid library of apps, documents and 5-megapixel photos without constant off-loading. Ten hours of rated battery life supports a full day of browsing, video playback at 1080p or FaceTime calls over Wi-Fi. Heavy video editing or large offline media collections will exceed the available space and memory headroom.

Upgrades the iPad 2 display and processor

Moving from the earlier 9.7-inch model quadruples the pixel count and adds the A6X chip for noticeably smoother multitasking and gaming. The jump is worth it for users who want Retina clarity and 1080p video recording on a legacy iOS 6 device. Buyers needing current app support, more storage or cellular data should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

Will this iPad 4 with its 30-pin connector still sync with an older Mac running iTunes 12?

The tablet uses Apple's 30-pin dock connector for charging and data, so it will sync with any Mac or PC running iTunes 12 or later that still supports that interface.

How can I verify the Retina display is showing its full 2048 by 1536 resolution after setup?

Open Settings, tap General then About, and confirm the model number matches MD511LL/A; the screen will then be running at its native 2048 x 1536 pixel resolution.

Does the box include a Lightning cable or do I need to buy a 30-pin cable separately?

The package contains the iPad 4, a 10 W USB power adapter and a 30-pin to USB cable; no Lightning cable is included or required for this model.
