Compact 9.7" Retina tablet for light tasks

The iPad Air with a 9.7 inch IPS LCD Retina display gives you 2048 x 1536 resolution in a thin 0.24 inch profile weighing 0.96 lb. A tri-core Apple A8X CPU with M8 chip and 2GB LPDDR3 RAM handles web browsing, email and streaming video. 32GB built-in storage holds apps and media for students or casual users who want a simple portable screen.

Passive cooling keeps it silent in daily use

With no internal fans the tablet runs completely silent while you read, browse or watch video. The low-power A8X processor and 2GB LPDDR3 memory draw minimal energy so the battery lasts through a typical day of mixed use. Bluetooth 4.0 and 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi maintain steady connections without adding noticeable heat to the aluminium chassis.

Sustained workloads throttle the processor quickly

Under continuous heavy use such as long video exports or extended gaming the A8X chip reduces clock speeds to manage temperature because there is no active cooling. The 32GB storage fills fast if you record 1080p video or download large games. Buyers who need more storage or consistent high performance for professional creative work should consider other options.

Questions about this item

How do I set up the iPad Air 9.7" 32GB Space Gray and what step do people often miss?

Turn it on, connect to an 802.11 network, then sign in with an Apple ID; the step many skip is enabling Touch ID during the initial setup screens.

What maintenance or replacement will the iPad Air 9.7" 32GB Space Gray need later?

The built-in battery will eventually hold less charge; Apple or an authorised service provider can replace it when run-time drops below your needs.

What limit appears first on the iPad Air 9.7" 32GB Space Gray during sustained use?

The 2GB LPDDR3 RAM fills quickly with modern apps and multitasking, causing reloads and slower switching before the A8X CPU throttles.
