Professional workstation for creative workloads

The Apple Mac Pro pairs a 6-core Xeon processor at 3.5GHz with 32GB DDR3 ECC memory and a 128GB PCIe-based SSD. Dual AMD FirePro D500 graphics cards handle video editing, music production and software development tasks. The compact cylindrical design uses a unified thermal core to manage heat in a small footprint.

Build integration and connectivity

Six Thunderbolt 2 ports, four USB 3.0 ports, dual Gigabit Ethernet and HDMI connect displays, storage and peripherals without extra adapters. The system supports up to 4K displays and external GPUs for expanded graphics performance. macOS compatibility up to Ventura keeps the workstation current for professional software.

Bundled capabilities

Dual AMD FirePro D500 graphics cards provide workstation-class graphics for multi-stream video and 3D workflows. Thunderbolt 2 enables high-speed external storage and expansion chassis. Unified thermal core architecture reduces acoustic noise during sustained loads. macOS Ventura support extends the usable life of the platform.

Questions about this item

What is the base clock speed of the Xeon processor under sustained workloads?

The 6-core Xeon E5 runs at 3.5 GHz base clock; sustained performance depends on the unified thermal core keeping temperatures in check.

How loud does the unified thermal core get when the Mac Pro runs all day?

The single fan in the thermal core stays relatively quiet under typical loads; acoustic output rises only when both FirePro D500 GPUs and the CPU are fully taxed for extended periods.

Which display cables do I need to connect my existing monitors to the Thunderbolt 2 ports?

You will need Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt 2 cables, or active adapters for HDMI, DisplayPort or DVI monitors, because the six Thunderbolt 2 ports carry video signals only.
