Purpose and audience

The Apricorn Aegis Padlock DT is a 22 TB desktop hard drive built for users who need a single, high-capacity volume with hardware encryption. It suits professionals and home offices that back up large media libraries or project archives and want the data protected without software overhead.

Deciding specification

The drive connects through Super Speed USB 3.0 and remains backwards compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1 ports. This interface determines whether the device will reach its rated transfer rate on a given host, so buyers must confirm their system provides a USB 3.0 or newer port.

Capacity and headroom

With 22 TB of space the unit holds millions of images, hundreds of hours of video or up to a million songs, giving ample room for multi-year backups. An 8 MB cache buffer helps sustain throughput during large sequential transfers, while the 3.5 inch form factor and external power supply support continuous desktop operation.
