4 TB portable storage for Windows users

The WD Elements drive stores large media libraries, project archives and system backups in a 2.5 inch form factor that draws power from the host port. It is aimed at laptop and desktop owners who need extra capacity without an external power supply.

4 TB capacity with USB 3.0 transfer rates

The drive delivers full USB 3.0 speeds when connected to a 3.0 port, moving a full-length HD movie in a fraction of the time required by USB 2.0. Performance falls back to 2.0 rates on older ports, so sustained throughput depends on the host controller.

NTFS formatting and basic accessories included

The unit ships formatted NTFS for Windows 10, 8.1 and 7, so it works immediately on those systems; other operating systems require reformatting before use. The box contains the drive, a USB cable and a quick install guide.

Questions about this item

Will the USB 3.0 Micro-B interface work with my older USB 2.0 ports?

Yes, the drive is compatible with USB 2.0 ports, though data transfers will run at USB 2.0 speeds instead of the faster USB 3.0 rates.

How can I confirm the drive is performing at USB 3.0 speed after I plug it in?

Transfer a large file such as a full-length HD movie; if it completes in a fraction of the time USB 2.0 would take, the USB 3.0 connection is active.

Does the package include the USB cable, or do I need to buy one separately?

The box contains the portable hard drive, a USB cable, and a quick install guide, so no separate cable purchase is required.
