Secure Desktop Storage

The Apricorn Aegis Padlock DT is a 4TB desktop external hard drive that connects through a USB 3.0 interface. It uses a hardware keypad for PIN entry so no software or administrator rights are required. The drive works with Windows, Mac and Linux systems and is aimed at users who need encrypted local storage without installing drivers.

Sustained Workload Behaviour

A 7200 RPM mechanism with an 8MB cache delivers consistent throughput for large file transfers and backups. Average seek time is 12ms and the real-time AES-XTS engine encrypts or decrypts every sector on the fly without slowing the data stream. The aluminium enclosure acts as a heatsink so performance remains stable during long write sessions.

Thermals Noise and Power

The solid aluminium case dissipates heat passively so the drive runs silently with no fan noise. Power is supplied by an included 12V AC adapter rather than the USB port alone. The compact footprint of 4.5 by 7.2 by 1.5 inches fits on a desk without obstructing airflow.
