Secure portable storage

The Apricorn Aegis Fortress L3 AFL3-S8TB is an 8TB external solid-state drive built for users who need hardware-based 256-bit encryption on the move. It delivers a maximum read transfer rate of 275 MB/s and a write speed of 60 MB/s over a USB 3.2 connection. The 2.5-inch form factor and included travel pouch suit mobile professionals handling sensitive data.

Host port and cable check

Verify that your computer offers a USB Type-A or Type-C port compatible with the USB 3.2 interface to reach the quoted transfer rates. The package supplies both a USB A cable and a USB C cable, so no extra adapter is required for either port style. Ensure your operating system can recognise an externally encrypted drive without proprietary driver installation.

Suits encrypted workflows, not speed-first users

This drive suits professionals who prioritise hardware encryption and physical durability for confidential files, backups or media libraries. Buyers who need the highest possible throughput for active video editing or large-scale data processing should consider alternatives with faster interface specifications.

Questions about this item

What cables and accessories come with the 8TB Aegis Fortress L3 and is a power adapter required?

The box contains the drive, a USB A cable, a USB C cable, a quick start guide and a travel pouch. No separate power adapter is needed because the drive draws power over USB.

How do I decide between the available capacities for the Aegis Fortress L3 series?

The 8TB model gives you roughly eight terabytes of encrypted storage; choose a smaller capacity only if you need less space or a lower purchase cost.

What does the 275 MB/s read speed mean when I plug the drive into a USB 3.2 port?

It is the maximum sequential read rate under ideal conditions; real-world transfers will be lower depending on file sizes, system overhead and the host controller.
