Internal Blu-ray combo drive for desktop builds

The ASUS BC-12D2HT is an internal 5.25-inch optical drive that reads BD-ROM discs at up to 12X and writes DVD±R media at up to 16X. It also handles CD-R at 48X and CD-RW at 24X for legacy media tasks. The black bezel matches standard tower aesthetics.

Low-power SATA operation with minimal noise

Connected via a standard SATA interface, the drive draws little power and runs quietly during typical read or write sessions. No auxiliary power connector is required beyond the SATA power cable. Normal use produces only a gentle mechanical whir.

M-DISC support and password encryption included

The bundled software enables M-DISC recording for archival-grade storage that resists degradation for centuries. Built-in password controls and file-name encryption add a layer of data protection without extra hardware. Retail packaging includes the drive and documentation.

Questions about this item

How do I install this internal SATA Blu-ray drive in a 5.25-inch bay, and what step is often missed?

Mount the unit in a 5.25-inch half-height bay using four M3 screws, connect the SATA data cable to the motherboard and the SATA power cable from the PSU, then ensure the SATA port is enabled in BIOS so the OS detects the drive.

What maintenance or replacement will this ASUS BC-12D2HT need over time?

The laser lens may need occasional cleaning with a disc-lens cleaner; the SATA data or power cables should be replaced if they become loose or damaged, and the drive itself is swapped only if it fails to read or write discs.

What is the first performance limit I will hit during sustained burning with this drive?

The 16x maximum DVD write speed is the ceiling; once the buffer empties the drive downshifts, so sustained throughput cannot exceed the 16x DVD±R rating.
