Server motherboard for Xeon E-2300 processors

This ATX board fits the LGA 1200 socket and supports Intel Xeon E-2300 series CPUs up to 95 W TDP alongside Pentium options. Four 288-pin DDR4 slots accept memory at 3200 MT/s for a total of 128 GB in dual-channel mode. The Intel C256 chipset provides the platform foundation for remote-office and branch-office deployments.

Dual 10GbE LAN and dual M.2 slots

Two Intel X710-AT2 controllers deliver 10 Gbps Ethernet with teaming support, while a dedicated management LAN enables out-of-band access. Both M.2 connectors accept 2242, 2260, 2280 and 22110 modules operating in either SATA or PCIe mode. An optional ASMB10-iKVM card adds KVM-over-IP through the ASPEED AST2600 controller.

PCIe lane sharing limits expansion flexibility

The primary PCIe 4.0 x16 slot drops to x8 when the PCIe 4.0 x8 slot is populated, restricting simultaneous full-speed use of both Gen4 slots. Two additional PCIe 3.0 x8 slots run at x4 link width. HDMI 1.4 output functions only when a processor with integrated graphics is installed, otherwise the Aspeed AST2600 drives VGA for basic display.

Questions about this item

Will the Aspeed AST2600 BMC need a firmware update after installation?

The Aspeed AST2600 BMC handles out-of-band management; firmware updates are released by ASUS for security and feature improvements and can be applied through the BMC web interface.

What limits sustained throughput on the dual 10GbE ports?

The Intel X710-AT2 controller provides two 10GbE links; sustained throughput is limited by the PCIe 3.0 x4 electrical connection to the chipset and by the 95 W CPU thermal ceiling under heavy packet processing.

How loud and hot does the board get when running all day?

Six 4-pin fan headers allow speed control tied to CPU and chipset temperatures; the 95 W TDP Xeon E-2300 and Intel C256 chipset generate moderate heat, so acoustic and thermal results depend on the chassis airflow and fan curves configured in BIOS.
