18-inch Ryzen 9 gaming laptop

The ASUS ROG Strix G18 G814FM pairs an 18.0-inch WUXGA IPS-level display running at 144Hz with a 16-core Ryzen 9 9955HX processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 graphics. Sixteen gigabytes of DDR5 5600MHz memory and a 2 TB PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe SSD provide capacity for modern titles and multitasking. Windows 11 Pro is pre-installed.

144Hz WUXGA display and PCIe 4.0 storage limits

The 1920 x 1200 panel refreshes at 144Hz, so motion clarity tops out at that rate regardless of GPU output. Storage runs over a PCIe 4.0 x4 link, capping sequential throughput to the bandwidth of that generation rather than newer 5.0 or 6.0 speeds. The RTX 5060 carries 8 GB of GDDR7 video memory, which frames the texture and resolution ceiling for current games.

Eclipse Gray chassis with upgraded thermal compound

The laptop measures 15.71 by 11.57 by 0.91 to 1.21 inches and weighs 6.61 lbs, giving it a substantial desk presence. HIDevolution applies Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut on the CPU and Gelid GC Extreme on the GPU, replacing stock paste to lower peak temperatures under sustained loads. The 16-core, 32-thread Ryzen 9 9955HX with 64 MB L3 cache and 5.4 GHz max turbo frequency benefits directly from the improved thermal interface.

Questions about this item

G814FM-DS95 or G814FM-DS95-HID1P — which part number should I order?

Both codes refer to the same laptop; G814FM-DS95 is the ASUS base model and HID1P marks the HIDevolution thermal upgrade with Gelid GC Extreme on the GPU, so order the HID1P version to receive the enhanced paste.

What does the 144 Hz panel mean for daily gaming on this 18 inch WUXGA screen?

The 1920 x 1200 IPS-level display refreshes 144 times per second, so fast motion in shooters or racers stays sharp without the blur you see on 60 Hz panels.

Does the PCIe 4.0 x4 link cap the 2 TB SSD speed in real use?

The drive runs on a PCIe 4.0 x4 interface, which is the standard ceiling for current consumer NVMe SSDs and will not throttle the 2 TB module during game loads or file transfers.
