18-inch 240 Hz gaming laptop

This ASUS ROG Strix G18 G815LW pairs an 18-inch WQXGA 240 Hz IPS-level display with an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX 24-core processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 graphics. It ships with 96 GB of DDR5 5600 MHz memory and a 2 TB PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe SSD. The configuration targets enthusiasts who want desktop-class performance in a portable chassis.

Thermals with premium interface materials

HIDevolution applies Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut on the CPU and Gelid GC Extreme on the GPU to lower core temperatures under sustained load. The 24-core Arrow Lake processor reaches a 5.5 GHz max turbo frequency while the RTX 5080 carries 16 GB of GDDR7 video memory. Together these measures aim to keep fan noise and power draw controlled during extended gaming or rendering sessions.

96 GB DDR5 5600 MHz memory capacity

The system includes two 48 GB modules for a total of 96 GB running in dual-channel mode at 5600 MHz. This capacity supports heavy multitasking, large texture workloads and memory-intensive applications without paging. Buyers who need more than 96 GB of system memory or require ECC support should consider alternatives.

Questions about this item

How is the thermal interface material applied to the CPU and GPU during installation, and what step is often missed?

The CPU receives Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut liquid metal while the GPU gets Gelid GC Extreme paste; both require precise, even coverage and correct heatsink pressure, and the step often missed is re-torquing the mounting screws after the first thermal cycle.

What maintenance will the DDR5 memory and PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD need later?

The 96 GB DDR5 5600 MHz kit (2 × 48 GB) and 2 TB NVMe SSD have no scheduled maintenance; only firmware updates for the SSD and occasional dust removal from the chassis vents are recommended.

What limit appears first during sustained load on the 240 Hz WQXGA panel with the RTX 5080?

The GPU 16 GB GDDR7 frame buffer fills before the 240 Hz refresh ceiling is reached, capping 1 % low frame rates in memory-heavy titles at 2560 × 1600 resolution.
