15.6-inch 300 Hz gaming laptop

The ASUS ROG Zephyrus S15 GX502LXS-XS79 pairs a 15.6-inch FHD IPS-level panel running at 300 Hz with an Intel Core i7-10875H eight-core processor and an NVIDIA RTX 2080 Super Max-Q GPU. Forty-eight gigabytes of DDR4 2666 MHz memory and six terabytes of PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe storage are installed. The display covers 100 percent sRGB and supports G-Sync for tear-free gaming.

Thermals and acoustics in daily use

The slim 0.74-inch chassis weighs 4.18 pounds and relies on the Max-Q graphics design to keep heat and fan noise moderate during typical productivity or light gaming sessions. The eight-core Comet Lake CPU runs at a 2.30 GHz base clock with a 5.10 GHz turbo ceiling, drawing controlled power under light loads. Gigabit LAN and WLAN handle network traffic without adding thermal stress.

Behaviour under sustained load

Under prolonged heavy workloads the i7-10875H can maintain elevated frequencies up to 5.10 GHz while the RTX 2080 Super Max-Q with 8 GB GDDR6 delivers consistent frame rates on the 300 Hz screen. The 48 GB DDR4 configuration (16 GB on-board plus 32 GB module) prevents memory bottlenecks during extended renders or multi-tasking. Dual M.2 NVMe drives totalling 6 TB sustain high sequential throughput without thermal throttling.

Questions about this item

How do I add more storage to the second M.2 slot and what step is often missed?

The laptop has two M.2 PCIe 3.0 x4 slots populated with a 2 TB and a 4 TB NVMe SSD. To add storage you must remove an existing drive, clone its data to the new drive, then reinstall the operating system and drivers.

Which components will need replacement first under heavy daily use?

The 8 GB GDDR6 video memory on the RTX 2080 Super Max-Q and the 48 GB DDR4 2666 MHz system memory are soldered or board-mounted and cannot be upgraded. Battery capacity will degrade over charge cycles and is the only user-replaceable part.

What thermal limit appears first during long gaming sessions?

The Intel Core i7-10875H reaches its 5.10 GHz turbo ceiling and the RTX 2080 Super Max-Q hits its power envelope, causing both to throttle. The 0.74" thin chassis limits sustained airflow, so surface temperatures rise before clock speeds stabilise.
