Gaming router for home networks

The ASUS RT-AX82U GUNDAM is a dual-band Wi-Fi 6 router built for households that prioritise low-latency gaming traffic. It delivers combined wireless rates up to 5400 Mbps using 160 MHz channels and supports MU-MIMO for multiple simultaneous devices. A dedicated gaming LAN port gives wired priority to a console or PC. ASUS AiMesh lets you expand coverage by linking compatible routers.

Check your internet connection and space

Verify that your broadband modem provides an Ethernet handoff for the single 10/100/1000M WAN port. The router measures 6.50" x 10.85" x 7.26" with antennas attached, so confirm shelf or desk clearance. Four external antennas are fixed in position and cannot be replaced with high-gain alternatives. Power requires a standard 110-240V AC outlet supplying 19V at 1.75A via the included adapter.

Build quality and daily connectivity

The chassis weighs 1.63 lbs and features Aura RGB lighting with selectable effects that can be toggled by a dedicated LED button. Four Gigabit LAN ports and one USB 3.2 Gen 1 port sit at the rear for wired clients and storage sharing. WPS, reset and power switches are recessed to prevent accidental presses. Lifetime AiProtection Pro adds network-level threat blocking and parental controls without a subscription fee.

Questions about this item

What comes in the box and what must I buy separately?

The box contains the router unit and its 19 V power adapter. Ethernet cables for the 1 x WAN and 4 x LAN ports are not included.

The model name shows AX5400 — what does that figure represent?

AX5400 is the combined theoretical maximum across both bands using 160 MHz channels and 1024 QAM.

How does the 5400 Mbps headline speed translate to real-world throughput on my devices?

Actual throughput depends on client capabilities, channel width, interference and distance; the router supports up to 4333 Mbps on 5 GHz 802.11ax and up to 500 Mbps on 2.4 GHz 802.11n with 1024 QAM.
