Ultra-slim external DVD writer

The ASUS SDRW-08U9M-U/SIL is a 13 mm slim external optical drive that connects through USB 2.0. It reads and writes CDs and DVDs, including dual-layer media, and supports M-DISC for long-term archival storage. The silver finish and concentric-circle hairline design suit thin-and-light laptops.

For occasional disc users on Windows or Mac

This drive suits anyone who needs to install legacy software, play DVD movies, or burn backup discs on a modern laptop without an internal bay. It works with Windows XP through Windows 10 and macOS 10.6 or higher. Buyers who want Blu-ray playback or recording should look at a different class of drive.

Steady speeds for long write sessions

DVD+R and DVD-R write at 8X while DVD+RW and dual-layer media write at 6X and 8X respectively. CD-R and CD-RW reach 24X for quick audio or data discs. Access times of 140 ms for CD and 160 ms for DVD keep performance consistent during extended burns.

Questions about this item

What type of USB port does my laptop need for the SDRW-08U9M-U/SIL to work?

It connects via USB 2.0 and the box includes both a USB 2.0 cable and a USB Type-C cable for newer laptops.

Will the 8X DVD write speed and 24X CD write speed work the same if I plug it into an older USB 2.0 port?

Yes, the drive is designed for USB 2.0 so the 8X DVD and 24X CD rates are achieved on any standard USB 2.0 port.

How can I confirm the drive is operating correctly after I connect it?

Insert a disc; the tray loads and the system recognises the drive, then a successful read or burn at the rated speeds shows it is working.
