What the product is

The LG GP65NW60 is a new external slim DVD rewriter finished in white. It connects through a USB 2.0 interface and measures 0.60 inches high, 5.60 inches wide and 5.40 inches deep. The drive reads CDs at 24x and DVDs at 8x, with a 768 KB buffer to smooth data flow.

Who it suits and who it does not

This writer suits users who need to read or write CD and DVD media on a laptop or desktop without an internal bay. It supports M-DISC for long-term archival and works with both Mac and Surface devices. It does not suit buyers who need Blu-ray read or write capability, nor those who require a faster USB 3.0 connection.

How it fits into a build

The slim form factor frees desk space and slips into a bag for travel. Power is drawn from the USB port so no external adapter is needed. The drive handles CD-R, CD-RW, DVD±R, DVD±RW, DVD±R DL and DVD-RAM media at the listed speeds. A USB 2.0 port and compatible operating system are the only host requirements.

Questions about this item

Does the GP65NW60 need a separate power adapter, or does the USB 2.0 port supply enough power?

The drive draws power directly from the USB 2.0 connection, so no external adapter is required.

Will this white external DVD rewriter work with an older laptop that only has USB 1.1 ports?

Yes, the USB 2.0 interface is backward compatible with USB 1.1, though maximum 8X DVD and 24X CD speeds will be limited by the slower port.

How can I verify the 768 KB buffer is active during a burn?

Burning software typically displays the buffer level in real time; a steady 768 KB reading means the drive is streaming data without underruns.
