Four-bay desktop NAS for home storage

The ASUSTOR AS1204T provides four SATA drive bays in a diskless chassis, letting you choose capacity and RAID level. A Realtek RTD1619B quad-core processor running at 1.7GHz and 1GB of DDR4 memory handle file serving, backup and media streaming for households and small offices.

2.5GbE network port and USB 3.2 Gen 1 expansion

The single 2.5GbE RJ-45 connection tops out at 2.5Gbps and falls back to Gigabit speeds on older switches. Three USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports run at 10Gbps each, allowing external drives or a USB UPS without saturating the internal bus.

Upgrade from single-bay or USB-attached storage

Moving from a one-bay NAS or a direct-attached USB drive adds RAID redundancy and simultaneous multi-user access. The jump is worth it when you need fault tolerance, 4K transcoding headroom or the post-quantum TLS 1.3 encryption enabled in ADM 5.1.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 4-bay version or a smaller bay count for this Drivestor model?

The AS1204T is a 4-bay desktop NAS with four SATA drive slots, so it is the only bay count available for this specific model.

What does the 2.5GbE port deliver in everyday file transfers?

The built-in 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port provides up to 2.5 Gbps throughput and is backward compatible with standard Gigabit networks for faster large-file copies.

How do the USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports limit external drive speeds?

Each of the three USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports runs at 10 Gbps, capping external SSD or HDD transfers to that bandwidth.
