USB KVM Extender over Cat 5e

The ATEN CE700A extends USB keyboard, video and mouse signals up to 150 metres over a single Cat 5e cable. It supports one local and one remote console for dual-user access. Maximum video resolution is 1920 x 1200 at 60 Hz over 30 metres. The unit operates from a 5.3 V DC supply and fits a standard rack-mount kit.

IT managers needing remote server access at distance

Suits administrators who must control a single computer from a separate room or cabinet up to 150 metres away. Dual console operation allows local and remote users to share the same system. Not for setups requiring multi-computer switching, digital video formats beyond analog VGA, or resolutions higher than 1920 x 1200.

150-metre analog VGA extension limit

The defining specification is the 150-metre reach at 1280 x 1024 resolution over Cat 5e wiring. At 30 metres the extender delivers 1920 x 1200 at 60 Hz, dropping to 1600 x 1200 at 100 metres. This distance-resolution trade-off determines whether the device fits the installation.

Questions about this item

What Cat 5e cable length do I need to reach the 150 m maximum distance?

Use a single Cat 5e cable up to 150 m between the local and remote units; at that length the extender delivers 1280 x 1024 @ 60 Hz.

Will my existing VGA monitor work at its native 1600 x 1200 resolution?

Yes — the extender supports 1600 x 1200 @ 60 Hz over distances up to 100 m, so a VGA monitor at that resolution will display correctly.

How can I confirm the extender is passing video at 1920 x 1200 after installation?

Connect a monitor to the remote HDB-15 port, set the display to 1920 x 1200 @ 60 Hz, and verify the image is stable at up to 30 m cable length.
