It comfortably handles 8K at 60 Hz, 4K at 144 Hz and 2K at 240 Hz, while 1080p reaches 280 Hz. The cable runs out of headroom for uncompressed 8K above 60 Hz or 4K beyond 144 Hz without compression.

DisplayPort 1.4 practical limits

The interface tops out at 32.40 Gbit/s and 16-bit deep colour, supporting HDCP 2.2 and 32 audio channels with ARC. It is backwards compatible with DisplayPort 1.2, 1.1 and 1.0, but cannot carry HDMI or Mini DisplayPort signals. All connected devices must support the target resolution and refresh rate to achieve the listed performance.
