Professional Headworn Microphone for Hands-Free

The Audio-Technica PRO 8HEx is a hypercardioid dynamic microphone designed for vocal pickup without occupying the user's hands. It features a Hi-ENERGY neodymium element that delivers crisp sound reproduction for live or broadcast applications. The low-visibility black headband and cushioned support pads provide a stable, comfortable fit during extended use. A pivot-mounted flexible boom allows the microphone to descend from either the left or right side.

Suited for Active Performers.

This headworn design suits guitarists, keyboard players, drummers and presenters who require freedom of movement while maintaining consistent microphone positioning. The hypercardioid pattern focuses on the speaker's voice while rejecting off-axis noise. Users who prefer a traditional stand-mounted microphone for podcasting or static streaming should consider a different form factor. The permanently attached cable also limits compatibility with wireless systems requiring a detachable connector.

XLR Connection Integrates Directly

The microphone terminates in a fixed 7.2 foot (2.2 m) cable with an XLRM-type connector for direct connection to mixing consoles, audio interfaces or PA systems. No phantom power is required for the dynamic element, simplifying the signal chain. The 55 dB sensitivity and 75 dB signal-to-noise ratio ensure clean vocal capture in loud environments. The lightweight construction adds minimal strain, freeing the performer from managing a separate mic stand or boom arm.

Questions about this item

What external device with an XLR input do I need to connect this microphone?

You need a mixer, audio interface or recorder that provides a female XLR socket; the microphone's 7.2 foot cable ends in a male XLR plug that inserts directly into that socket.

Will the permanently attached 7.2 foot cable reach my mixer if I keep the mixer on the floor beside me?

Yes, the 2.2 metre cable runs from the headset to the XLR connector, giving enough length for a floor-standing mixer while you move on stage.

How can I confirm the microphone is picking up my voice clearly after I plug it in?

Speak at performance level and watch the input meter on your mixer or interface; a strong, clean signal around the rated 55 dB sensitivity with low background hiss indicates proper operation.
