Versatile bedroom CD system

The AUDIOVOX W12 combines a top-loading CD player, FM radio with 30 presets, and a USB port for MP3 playback in a single black unit. Dual alarms wake you to a choice of CD, USB, radio or a progressive buzzer that ramps in volume. A supplied remote controls volume, track skip and snooze from across the room. The mains-powered design suits a bedside table or kitchen shelf.

Mains-powered stereo output

Twin built-in speakers deliver 1.5 W per channel RMS from the corded electric supply, so there are no batteries to replace for daily use. The frequency response is quoted as 20 Hz to 20 kHz, giving full-range reproduction for music and speech. A 3.5 mm headphone jack allows private listening without muting the alarms. Power draw is limited to the 10 W USB charging port and the audio amplifier combined.

10 W USB charging port

The rear USB socket supplies up to 10 watts for overnight phone or tablet charging while the clock maintains time and alarm settings. Buyers who need faster charging protocols or multiple high-power ports will need a dedicated wall charger instead. The single USB-A connector accepts standard cables up to 32 GB for audio playback. No wireless charging or data sync functions are provided.

Questions about this item

How do I set up the AUDIOVOX W12 and what is the common mistake with the backup batteries?

Plug the unit into mains power, then insert two AA batteries (not supplied) to keep the clock and 30 FM presets during a power cut; the step often missed is adding those batteries, so settings are lost if the cord is unplugged.

What will need replacement on the AUDIOVOX W12 after extended use?

The backup AA batteries should be changed once a year to maintain clock and preset memory; the CD laser and 3.5 mm headphone jack are solid-state and have no user-service schedule.

What is the first limit reached when playing the AUDIOVOX W12 continuously at high volume?

The 10 W stereo amplifier (1.5 W + 1.5 W RMS per channel) will clip and distort before the speakers or power supply reach any thermal limit.
