Incremental rotary encoder delivering 100 pulses per revolution with NPN open-collector output on 12-24 VDC supply
The Autonics ENC-1-2-N-24 is an incremental rotary encoder designed for motion-control systems that need reliable position feedback. It delivers 100 pulses per revolution through NPN open-collector outputs suited to 12-24 VDC logic.
The encoder draws power from a 12-24 VDC supply with a maximum 5 % ripple and operates up to a 180 kHz response frequency. Mechanical speed is rated to 5000 rpm, so heat and acoustic noise remain negligible in typical continuous operation.
An axial cable provides a direct connection to the controller, while the 250 mm measuring wheel and 4:1 gear ratio translate linear travel into encoder pulses. The NPN output stage requires a pull-up resistor at the receiving input, and the 12-24 VDC range matches common industrial power rails.

Connect the red wire to 12-24VDC, black to ground, and the A and B phase wires to your controller inputs; the step often missed is adding pull-up resistors on A and B because the NPN outputs only sink current.
The 250mm wheel and 4:1 gear set should be checked periodically for debris and bearing play; clean the wheel surface and verify the gear mesh stays smooth to keep the 100 pulse count accurate.
The 180kHz maximum response frequency is reached at 5000rpm; beyond that speed the A and B phase signals can no longer switch cleanly, so the 5000rpm mechanical limit is the practical ceiling.
