Capture purpose

The AVerMedia GC553 Live Gamer ULTRA is a USB 3.1 Gen1 Type C video capture device that records gameplay up to 4Kp30 and passes through 4Kp60 HDR or Full HD up to 240 Hz without added latency. It encodes in H.264 or H.265 using RECentral software and includes CyberLink PowerDirector 15 for editing. The box contains the capture unit, an HDMI 2.0 cable, a Type C to Type A cable and a quick guide.

Who it suits

Streamers and creators who need 4K HDR pass-through while recording at 4Kp30 or 1080p120 will find the device matches that workflow. It also serves anyone wanting Full HD HDR recording at 60 fps with plug-and-play UVC support on Windows 10 x64. Buyers who must capture 4K at 60 fps or who require HDR editing in the bundled software should look at other solutions.

Deciding specification

The single specification that determines fit is the maximum capture resolution and frame rate: 2160p30 for 4K or 1080p120 for Full HD. If your content pipeline demands 4Kp60 recording, this unit will not meet that requirement.

Questions about this item

Does the GC553 have any internal storage or moving parts that will need replacement over time?

The GC553 has no internal storage or moving parts; it captures video directly to the connected PC via USB 3.1 Gen1 Type C, so there are no components that wear out mechanically.

What capture frame-rate ceiling will I hit first when recording at 1080p for long sessions?

The device caps Full HD capture at 120 fps, so sustained 1080p120 recording is the highest frame-rate limit you will reach.

How much heat or fan noise does the GC553 produce when streaming all day?

The compact 1.02 x 4.43 x 2.60 inch, 0.26 lb unit has no fan and runs cool during extended use; it draws power only from the USB 3.1 Gen1 Type C connection.
