PS5 storage expansion

This white 8 TB desktop drive connects via USB 3.0 and arrives pre-formatted for the PS5 file system. It adds capacity instantly without opening the console, letting you keep PS4 titles on external storage while reserving the internal SSD for PS5 games.

Upgrading from limited internal space

The drive replaces the need to delete and re-download large titles when the console fills. Copying a PS5 game back from this USB extended storage is faster than downloading it again, so the jump is worthwhile whenever the internal drive runs low.

Plug-and-play installation

No tools or case disassembly are required; simply connect the cable and the console recognises the volume. The fan-less chassis runs silently, and the only common issue is forgetting that PS5 games must be moved back to the internal SSD before they can be played.

Questions about this item

What physical space or mounting does this desktop external drive need?

The drive is a desktop unit that sits outside the console; no internal bay, bracket or opening of the PS5 case is required.

How is the drive installed on the PS5, and what step do people often miss?

Connect the USB 3.0 cable to a PS5 USB port; the drive arrives pre-formatted for the PS5 file system, so the step users forget is selecting it as extended storage in Settings > Storage.

What maintenance or replacement will this 8 TB drive need later?

Mechanical drives can develop bad sectors over time; run the PS5 storage repair tool periodically and plan to replace the unit if SMART errors appear or performance drops.
