2 m 40GBASE-AOC QSFP Plus Cable

This Axiom active optical cable delivers a 40 Gb Ethernet link over two metres. It is built for Cisco switches and routers that accept QSFP Plus transceivers. The cable arrives pre-coded for immediate recognition by the listed Nexus and Catalyst platforms.

Suits Cisco 40 Gb uplinks; not for other speeds

Network teams extending 40 Gb uplinks on Nexus 3132, 3172, 3264, 56128, 6001, 6004, 7000 or 9300 series and Catalyst 9500 switches can deploy this cable without additional configuration. Buyers who need a different reach or a different data rate cannot use this part.

40 Gb QSFP Plus active optical interface

The single deciding specification is the 40 Gb QSFP Plus active optical interface coded for the Cisco models listed in the compatibility table. Only ports that explicitly support 40GBASE-AOC QSFP Plus modules will establish a link with this cable.

Questions about this item

Does the 2 m Axiom QSFP-H40G-AOC2M-AX cable generate noticeable heat or noise when carrying 40 Gb/s traffic continuously?

Active optical cables use low-power optics instead of copper, so the 2 m Axiom QSFP-H40G-AOC2M-AX runs silently and produces negligible heat even at full 40 Gb/s load.

Which Cisco switches must I already have for this QSFP+ AOC to work?

The cable is pre-coded for Cisco Nexus 9300, 3132, 3172, 3264, 56128, 6001, 6004, 7000 M2-Series and Catalyst 9500-24Y4C ports.

Will this 40GBASE-AOC link correctly if I keep older 10 GbE SFP+ modules in the same chassis?

Yes — the Axiom QSFP+ AOC operates independently on its 40 Gb/s lane and does not interfere with adjacent 10 GbE SFP+ modules in the same switch.
