Baldwin Filters PT683 Hydraulic Filter Element

The Baldwin Filters PT683 is a wire-backed hydraulic cartridge element designed for fluid power systems. It carries a 9.8 micron rating to capture fine contaminants. The unit includes an integral gasket and spring for a secure seal. It is intended for maintenance crews and equipment operators who service hydraulic circuits.

Cartridge Design with Integral Seal

The element measures 12 15/32 in in height and length with an outside diameter of 3 21/32 in. Inside diameters are 1 1/4 in and 1 7/8 in to fit specific filter heads. No thread engagement is required, so installation relies on the housing clamp or cap. The cartridge format frees up housing space compared to spin-on cans.

Replaces Worn Hydraulic Elements

This filter replaces a spent cartridge when pressure drop rises or scheduled service intervals arrive. The jump is worth it when the old element shows bypass indicators or fluid analysis reveals elevated particle counts. It is not suited for applications that demand a spin-on housing or a different micron rating.

Questions about this item

When does the 9.8 micron rating reach its limit under sustained flow?

The 9.8 micron element traps particles until the cartridge is fully loaded, then flow restriction signals replacement.

How much heat does the cartridge add during all-day hydraulic operation?

The filter element itself generates no heat; fluid temperature depends on the system, not the cartridge.

Which housing thread fits the 1 1/4 in and 1 7/8 in inside diameters?

Thread size is not applicable; the element slides into a compatible Baldwin housing that accepts those IDs.
