Hydraulic filter element for fluid systems

The Baldwin Filters PT8978-MPG is a cartridge-style hydraulic filter element designed to remove contaminants from hydraulic fluid circuits. It suits maintenance teams and equipment operators who need a direct replacement element for compatible filter housings.

Sustained filtration performance

The element uses wire-mesh supported Maximum Performance Glass media to maintain consistent particle capture over extended service intervals. Its construction resists collapse under differential pressure so flow remains steady during continuous operation.

Thermal and pressure compatibility

The glass-media cartridge tolerates normal hydraulic fluid temperatures and system pressures without degradation. An included O-ring provides a reliable seal to prevent bypass leakage during routine use.

Questions about this item

How much heat does the PT8978-MPG generate during continuous hydraulic system operation?

The cartridge element has no moving parts and produces no measurable heat itself; fluid temperature rise depends on the pump and system load, not the filter.

Which housing or adapter is required to install this 9-1/16 inch cartridge?

It fits Baldwin housings that accept a 2-3/32 inch outside diameter cartridge with a 1-1/32 inch inside diameter and includes the necessary O-ring for sealing.

Will this glass-media cartridge work with older Baldwin filter heads that used wire-mesh elements?

Yes, the PT8978-MPG uses the same 2-3/32 inch OD and 1-1/32 inch ID dimensions, so it drops into existing compatible heads without modification.
