Baldwin Hydraulic Filter Element

This Baldwin Filters PT8998-MPG is a cartridge-type hydraulic filter element designed for fluid-power systems. It uses Maximum Performance Glass media supported by wire mesh to capture contaminants. The element includes an O-ring for sealing and has no threads. It suits maintenance teams and equipment owners who need a direct replacement cartridge.

Easy cartridge swap with O-ring seal

Installation consists of removing the old cartridge, lubricating the supplied O-ring, and seating the new element in the housing. The most common issue is reusing the old O-ring or seating it dry, which causes bypass leaks. No tools are required beyond those used to open the filter housing. Verify the housing is clean before fitting the new element.

Dimensions fix housing compatibility

The element measures 2-23/32 inches in height and length, with an outside diameter of 2-5/32 inches and an inside diameter of 11/16 inch. These fixed dimensions mean the cartridge only fits housings built to this exact envelope. Systems needing a different length, diameter or thread connection cannot use this element.

Questions about this item

How can I confirm the 2-23/32 in cartridge is seated and filtering correctly after installation?

Check that the O-ring is fully seated, tighten the housing to the specified torque, then start the system and verify pressure drop across the element stays within the normal range for your circuit.

What comes with the PT8998-MPG element and what must I supply separately?

The box contains the cartridge with its O-ring; you must provide the filter housing, mounting hardware and hydraulic fluid.

Which PT8998-MPG version should I choose for a 2-23/32 in housing with an 11/16 in bore?

Select the standard PT8998-MPG cartridge — it matches the 2-23/32 in length and 11/16 in inside diameter listed for this housing.
