Rugged laser sensor for 610 mm range

The Banner Q4XFKLAF610-Q8 is a rectangular stainless-steel proximity sensor that uses a visible red Class 1 laser to detect objects from 35 mm to 610 mm. It operates on 10-30 V dc and connects through an integral Euro M12 4-pin quick-disconnect. The housing is flush-mount rated and carries MIL-STD vibration and shock qualifications for harsh industrial environments.

Upgrade from basic photoelectric switches

This sensor replaces simple diffuse or retroreflective units when background or foreground suppression is required to ignore nearby surfaces or distant walls. The jump is worth it when repeatability of +/-0.5 mm up to 110 mm and +/-0.5% of range beyond must be held across temperature shifts of +/-0.05 mm per °C near field and +/-0.85 mm per °C at full range. Push-button and remote teach adjustments let operators re-set the sensing field without opening the enclosure.

Limits of the M12 discrete IO-Link interface

The single PNP/NPN output with IO-Link communication shares the 4-pin Euro connector, so only one discrete signal and the serial link are available simultaneously. No analog output or PC configuration port is provided, restricting integration to PLCs or gateways that support the IO-Link device profile. The 1500 ms power-up delay must be allowed in the control sequence before the first valid measurement.
