Compact Dual-Band Handheld Radio

The Baofeng UV-5R is a compact handheld transceiver covering VHF and UHF bands with up to 5 watts output. It offers 128 programmable channels, dual-band display, dual standby and a built-in FM broadcast receiver from 65-108 MHz. The package includes an 1800 mAh Li-ion battery, flexible SMA-J antenna, belt clip, wrist strap, AC adapter and drop-in charging tray.

Upgrade from Single-Band or Lower-Power Units

This radio replaces single-band walkie-talkies or lower-power FRS/GMRS units when you need simultaneous monitoring of two frequencies across 136-174 MHz and 400-480 MHz receive ranges. The jump is worth it for users who require selectable wide or narrow bandwidth, 50 CTCSS and 105 DCS codes, VOX hands-free operation and a tri-colour backlight for low-light readability.

Verify Licensing and Frequency Compatibility

Before ordering, confirm that your intended transmit frequencies fall within the 144-148 MHz and 420-450 MHz ranges and that you hold the appropriate licence for those bands. Check that the 7.4 V DC operating voltage and SMA-J antenna connector match your existing accessories, and ensure the 100 x 52 x 32 mm form factor suits your carrying requirements.
