  • Keeps dust and rain off 40mm objective lens
  • Fits 42mm objective lens on Varmint scopes
  • Black matte finish minimises reflections
  • Screws directly onto scope for secure fit

Scope Sun Shade

The Barska 5 inch sun shade threads onto the objective lens of compatible Varmint riflescopes. It is built for shooters who need to cut glare during bright daylight sessions. The black matte finish avoids unwanted reflections that could give away a position. This accessory is not for optics with objective diameters other than the specified sizes.

Build Integration

The shade screws directly onto the front of a 40mm or 42mm objective lens without tools. It adds five inches of forward extension to block low angle sunlight. The unit also acts as a physical barrier that keeps dust and rain off the glass surface. Users must verify thread compatibility before purchase as fitment is limited to specific Varmint scope models.

Capacity And Headroom

The five inch length provides a practical shadow zone for the objective lens in high sun conditions. It handles direct glare and incidental weather exposure on the front element effectively. The shade does not magnify, correct parallax or alter the optical performance of the scope itself. It offers no benefit for scopes with smaller or larger objective diameters than those listed.

Questions about this item

Will the 5-inch length make the scope too front-heavy during all-day carry?

The 5-inch shade adds minimal weight to the 40mm objective end and balances well on Varmint scopes for extended field use.

Does the matte black finish stay cool and quiet under direct sun?

The passive matte black finish absorbs heat without reflective glare and has no moving parts, so it remains completely silent.

My scope has a 42mm objective — will the threads match?

The shade is designed to screw onto 40mm Varmint scopes; a 42mm objective may not have compatible threading.
