MicroLogix 1400 32-point controller
The Allen Bradley 1766-L32BWA is a MicroLogix 1400 programmable logic controller with 32 integrated I/O points. It provides 20 digital and 4 analog inputs alongside 12 digital and 2 analog outputs. The unit includes one combo RS-232/RS-485 port, one Ethernet port and one isolated RS-232 port for communication. It suits automation engineers building compact machine-control panels.
100-240 V AC supply with 40 A inrush
The controller operates on 100 to 240 volts AC at 47 to 63 hertz without an external supply. Inrush current reaches 40 amperes for 4 milliseconds and 25 amperes for 8 milliseconds during power-up. The solid-state design has no moving parts, so acoustic noise is negligible in normal operation. Heat output remains low inside a standard enclosure.
Replaces larger modular PLCs
This all-in-one unit replaces rack-based systems that require separate I/O modules, power supplies and communication cards. The jump is worth it when panel space is limited and the application fits within 32 local I/O points. It is not for processes needing high-density analog channels, motion-control axes or safety-rated I/O beyond the embedded complement.

Questions about this item
How do I mount the MicroLogix 1400 1766-L32BWA on a DIN rail and what step is often missed?
Hook the controller onto the DIN rail and press until the integrated latch clicks; the missed step is confirming the latch is fully seated so the unit cannot slide off
What part of the 1766-L32BWA will need replacement first during long-term operation?
The 12 relay outputs are mechanical contacts and will wear out before the solid-state circuits, so plan to replace the controller or migrate I/O when relay cycles approach their rated life
Which limit appears first when the 1766-L32BWA runs continuously at full load?
The 40 A inrush for 4 ms and 25 A for 8 ms at power-on stresses the upstream breaker and wiring, making the inrush rating the first constraint under repeated cold starts
