Practical limits of the Cat5e interface

The plugs accept 24 to 26 AWG conductors and support the Cat5e performance tier for 100 MHz bandwidth. Gold-plated contacts are rated at 15 micron-inch thickness to resist corrosion over repeated mating cycles. Three-prong contacts measuring 0.35 mm ± 0.02 mm pierce insulation reliably on both solid and stranded wire. Hole diameter is 1.05 mm for straight-through conductor alignment.

Deciding specification: contact plating thickness

The 15 micron-inch gold plating on the contact points is the single figure that determines long-term signal integrity in humid or high-cycle applications. Thinner flash plating can wear through, causing intermittent faults that are difficult to diagnose. This thickness balances cost and durability for permanent installations.
