What it is

This is a two-pack of inline Ethernet surge protectors built for gigabit networks and PoE+ installations. Each unit uses gas discharge tubes on all four wire pairs to divert lightning strikes, voltage spikes and PoE over-voltages away from connected equipment such as routers, switches, cameras and modems. The aluminium housing includes a 12 AWG ground wire and mounting flanges for screw fixing to a wall, panel or rack cabinet.

Deciding specification

The protector handles 10, 100 and 1000 Mbps links while passing up to 60 V and 720 mA for HPoE devices. Its gas discharge tubes provide bidirectional clamping rated at 5 kA 8/20 µs waveform, giving line-to-line and line-to-ground protection without degrading gigabit throughput. If your installation exceeds these voltage or current limits, a different suppressor class is required.

Build integration

Each suppressor inserts directly into an RJ45 CAT6, CAT5e or CAT5 run and needs a solid ground connection via the attached 12 AWG wire. The mounting flanges let you secure the pair at a patch panel, cabinet or wall outlet, keeping the ground path short. No external power supply is needed; the unit frees up rack space by combining surge arrest and PoE+ pass-through in a single inline device.
