Mining-focused ATX motherboard

The Biostar TB250-BTC PRO is an ATX motherboard built for cryptocurrency mining with twelve expansion slots. It uses the Intel B250 chipset and an LGA 1151 socket supporting Core i7, i5, i3, Pentium and Celeron processors up to 95 watts TDP. Two DDR4 slots accept up to 32 GB of memory at 2400, 2133 or 1866 MT/s. Six SATA 6 Gb/s ports handle storage.

Twelve PCIe slots for multi-GPU arrays

One full-length PCIe 3.0 x16 slot and eleven PCIe 3.0 x1 slots provide room for up to twelve graphics cards. The six x1 slots labelled PEX1_6 through PEX1_11 do not follow the ATX standard, so an extra connecting kit is required to mount cards in those positions. This layout lets the board run mixed AMD and Nvidia GPU configurations continuously.

Standard ATX power and cooling

The board draws power through regular ATX connectors and relies on the case airflow and CPU cooler chosen by the builder. Onboard audio uses the Realtek ALC887 codec with eight channels while networking is handled by a Realtek RTL8111H Gigabit Ethernet controller. Rear I/O includes USB 3.0, USB 2.0, DVI and LAN ports.

Questions about this item

How much heat does the 95 watt CPU limit add to a rig running 24/7?

The board only accepts processors up to 95 watts TDP, so sustained load stays within that thermal envelope; pair it with a cooler rated for at least 95 watts and ensure case airflow can move the equivalent heat from twelve graphics cards.

What extra parts are needed to use all eleven PCIe x1 slots for mining?

Slots six through eleven are not ATX-standard spacing, so each card in those positions requires a powered riser kit and a separate 12 V power connection; the board itself provides only the x1 electrical interface.

Will a 6th-generation Core i5 fit the LGA 1151 socket alongside older DDR4-2133 sticks?

The socket accepts 6th- and 7th-generation Core i7, i5, i3, Pentium and Celeron CPUs; memory runs at up to 2400 MT/s with 7th-gen chips and 2133 MT/s with 6th-gen, so older DDR4-2133 modules work at their rated speed.
