Application fit

This shielded Category 6 bulk cable is built for installers running long horizontal links through plenum spaces where electromagnetic noise is a concern. The 400 MHz bandwidth supports gigabit Ethernet and PoE across the full 1000 ft reel. Solid conductors keep attenuation low on extended pulls.

Who should look elsewhere

Technicians needing pre-terminated patch cords for short rack connections will find bare wire impractical. Projects that require riser or outdoor ratings instead of plenum should select a different jacket type. Installers who prefer stranded conductors for repeated flexing will not suit this solid-core design.

Deciding specification

The plenum-rated shielded construction is the single attribute that determines suitability; it meets fire-safety codes for air-handling spaces while the foil shield rejects external interference on long runs.

Questions about this item

Will the solid conductors need re-termination if the shielded plenum cable is moved after installation?

Solid conductors are not designed for repeated flexing; moving the cable after termination can fatigue the wires and require new connectors.

What performance limit appears first when the 400 MHz Cat6 cable runs at full bandwidth over the full 1000 ft length?

Attenuation and alien crosstalk increase with distance, so the 1000 ft span will reach the Cat6 channel loss limit before the 400 MHz rating becomes the bottleneck.

How much heat does the shielded plenum jacket add when the cable carries PoE loads continuously in a bundled run?

The plenum jacket is rated for fire safety, not thermal insulation; bundled PoE cables can exceed their temperature rating, so derating or spacing is required.
