Gigabit fibre media converter

The Black Box LGC212AR2 converts 10/100/1000 Ethernet signals to single-mode fibre at 1310 nm for distances up to 20 km. It uses an SC connector and draws power from the included multi-region 5 V adapter. The unit complies with FCC Class B, CE and IEEE 802.3 family standards.

Installers needing long copper-to-fibre links

Network technicians extending campus or building-to-building runs will find the 20 km reach suitable. Sites that require multi-mode fibre, a different wavelength or SFP flexibility should consider other options.

1310 nm single-mode 20 km reach

This wavelength and distance combination is the decisive parameter; the converter only operates on single-mode fibre at 1310 nm for exactly 20 km. Verify that your link budget and fibre type match before purchase.

Questions about this item

What Ethernet speeds does the 10/100/1000 interface actually negotiate?

The copper port auto-negotiates at 10, 100 or 1000 Mbps full-duplex.

What physical space and power does the LGC212AR2 need to mount?

The unit is a compact standalone box that ships with a 5 VDC adapter and US, EU, UK and AU clips; it sits on a shelf or rack tray.

How is the fibre side connected, and what step do installers often miss?

Connect a single-mode duplex SC patch cord to the 1310 nm TX/RX ports and verify the link LED before assuming the 20 km path is live.
