Compact PoE Inline Tester

The Black Box TS150A-R2 is a portable inline tester that verifies Power over Ethernet delivery on twisted-pair links. Two RJ-45 ports let technicians insert the unit between a switch and a powered device without interrupting the data path. It is aimed at network installers and IT teams who need quick confirmation that PoE voltage is present and within spec. The tester ships with an alkaline battery included for immediate use.

Fits Between Switch And Device

Because the unit sits inline, it requires only the existing patch cables and a free hand to connect; no external power supply or separate meter is needed. Its 1.5 inch height and 3.8 inch square footprint allow it to rest on a ladder shelf or tuck into a crowded rack tray. The tester frees up a multimeter for other tasks while still showing live PoE status on the built-in display. TAA compliance makes it suitable for government procurement lists.

Steady Readings Under Load

The inline design measures voltage while the powered device draws current, so the reading reflects real operating conditions rather than an open-circuit peak. Alkaline chemistry supplies consistent reference power for the meter circuitry during extended troubleshooting sessions. The rugged housing protects the PCB from the bumps common in field work, keeping calibration stable over time. A one-year limited warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship.

Questions about this item

How many PoE network (RJ-45) ports does the TS150A-R2 provide for inline testing?

The tester has two RJ-45 ports so you can insert it between a powered device and its switch to measure voltage and continuity on the twisted-pair link.

Does the TS150A-R2 generate noticeable heat or fan noise during extended PoE testing sessions?

The unit has no fan and draws power from a 9 V alkaline battery, so it runs silently and produces no measurable heat during all-day use.

What power source must I already have on hand for the TS150A-R2 to operate?

It ships with a 9 V alkaline battery installed, so no external power supply or PoE source is required to run the tester itself.
