Single-Monitor KVM Receiver

The Black Box EMD2000PE-R-P is a single-monitor KVM extender receiver that provides local console access to physical and virtual servers. It connects over a standard IP network and draws power through PoE when a compatible switch is present. The unit is aimed at administrators who need remote management without a dedicated workstation at the rack.

DVI-D and USB 2.0 Extension

This receiver replaces direct-attached keyboards, mice and monitors at the server side by extending DVI-D video up to 1920 x 1080 and transparent USB 2.0 over the network. The jump is worth it when servers sit in a secure or climate-controlled room and operators must work from a comfortable, centralised console. It also adds virtual machine access alongside physical server control.

1080p Video and USB Peripheral Headroom

The device comfortably handles full HD DVI video at 1920 x 1080 and typical USB HID devices such as keyboards and mice through its four Type A ports. Audio is supported via 3.5 mm speaker and microphone jacks. Bandwidth-intensive USB peripherals or resolutions beyond 1080p are not supported by this receiver.

Questions about this item

What rack space and clearance does the 1.32-inch-high receiver need?

The unit measures 1.32 inches high, 7.62 inches wide and 5.79 inches deep, so it fits in a single rack unit with room for rear cable bends.

Which connection step is often missed when powering the receiver over the network?

Connect the RJ-45 or SFP port to a PoE-capable switch; without PoE the external 100-240 VAC supply must be used instead.

What ongoing upkeep does the receiver require for firmware and attached USB devices?

Firmware updates are applied through the on-screen display or Boxilla, and the 36-watt supply supports USB-powered peripherals that may need replacement over time.
