What this converter does

The Boxwave Analog to Digital Audio Converter changes analogue stereo signals from RCA or 3.5 mm AUX sources into digital coaxial and Toslink SPDIF optical outputs. It handles sampling rates of 32, 44.1 and 48 KHz in LPCM format. The unit is powered by a 5 V USB cable and supports optical cable runs up to 5 metres.

Check your source and destination

Verify that your source device provides analogue audio through RCA left/right sockets or a 3.5 mm jack and that your amplifier, soundbar or AV receiver accepts digital input via Toslink optical or RCA coaxial. The converter only works in the analogue-to-digital direction and cannot reverse the signal flow. No driver installation is required for operation.

Fitting it into your setup

Connect the converter between legacy analogue gear such as a TV, DVD player, PS3, MP3 player, smartphone or tablet and a digital audio system. The USB power lead draws from any standard 5 V port, freeing you from a separate mains adapter. Both digital outputs are available simultaneously so you can feed two digital zones from one analogue source.
